The article analyzes the spatial distribution of livestock in the Republic of Buryatia. Cattle, sheep, pig, and poultry breeding are main types of livestock farming in Buryatia. Rosstat website present data on the state of livestock farming in rural municipalities since 2007, and therefore we have taken this year as the base for our research. The article presents the calculations for the share of livestock only for rural district municipalities without taking into account data for Ulan-Ude and Severobaikalsk. There is no correlation between the growth rate of the cattle population and the number of animals per person, however, the higher the proportion of cattle in the municipal unit, the greater the growth rate. Horse breeding is developing at a faster pace in the regions with a large market share. There is also no obvious correlation between the growth rate of the sheep and goat population and the number of animals per person, as well as the share of livestock per municipality. A similar situation is observed in poultry farming. There is no dependence of the growth rate of animal units of a municipality on the share and density of animal units relative to the total area of agricultural land.
