The article discusses the current state and challenges in the postgraduate training of academic personnel / upper level personnel in connection with the entry of the Russian Federation into the Bologna process. We have analyzed the most important tasks of Russia's integration into the Eurasian educational space, characterized three-stage higher education in the countries- participants of the Bologna agreement. In our opinion, the problems of dissertation research financing, independent choice of topics for scientific research, as well as interaction of a graduate student with an academic adviser and a scientific supervisor are of particular complexity. The article considers the achievements of China as an important partner of Russia in the field of education and training academic personnel. The processes in modern Russian graduate school are characterized by a low percentage of dissertation defenses, a large amount of educational training and practice. At the same time the less attention is paid to the preparation of the dissertation research. Currently, we are witnessing the process of reforming Russian postgraduate education as the third stage of higher education. With the adoption of the Federal law “On Science” postgraduate education will gradually return to “scientific graduate school”.
