The article discusses the historical peculiarities of delimitation of the southern borders of Mongolia. The signature of the "Treaty on the border between the Mongolian People's Republic and the People's Republic of China" in the second half of the 20th century became one of the most significant diplomatic events in the history of Mongolia. The study is focused on the specifics of the negotiation process, contribution of the participants in the negotiations, the difficulties of border demarcation, and the mechanisms for ensuring the se- curity of the southern border. The agreement included not only the demarcation of the bor- der itself, but also the mechanisms for ensuring the security of the two countries, regional relations, and socio-economic development of the country.
