The article reviews the functioning of the borrowed term flashback in Russian everyday speech. This lexical unit has long been used in psychology and psychiatry as a designation of a person’s feelings caused by strong emotional memories. However, the re- searchers focus on the functioning of this borrowed word not in scientific, but in everyday Russian speech. Therefore, the main source of the material for the study is the data of the General Internet-Corpus of Russian. The results obtained show that this lexical unit has been “Russianized” and become a part of stable grammatical constructions and expressions. These observations made it possible to derive the so-called "flashback formula", which in- cludes the most frequent "satellites" of a given word. In addition, new meanings, not record- ed in dictionaries, were discovered (‘returning to abandoned hobbies’; ‘trick in creating computer games’). The article presents the results of quantitative calculations that determine the most common meanings of the word flashback, implemented in Russian everyday speech.
