Pursuit of happiness is a human given. Globalization and modern problems of mankind entail significant value changes in public consciousness and a shift in worldview. In such conditions, the most acute issues are morality and ethics. Buddhism belongs to the catego- ry of ethical teachings, since the Buddhist tradition generated a rich discourse in the field of morality and moral behavior. According to the ethics of Buddhism the result of a posi- tive act is happiness, and the result of a negative act is suffering. The seeds of acts are embedded in the mind. The article discusses the Buddhist concepts of absolute happi- ness — an enlightened mind and relative happiness — a moral life. In particular, we have considered some methods and practices of Buddhism aimed at training the mind to achieve happiness both as a path to enlightenment and well-being in everyday life.
