The article analyzes the nature of social progress in the context of a changing socio-cultural paradigm. We argue that traditional approaches to studying progressive trends in society have become outdated due, in part, to the Western model of the world. This model imposed Western stereotypes as criteria for civility, leading to an obsolete assessment of societies based on degrees of civilization.
We have studied the concepts that challenge formational approaches to history and instead propose self-sufficient civilizational systems for all societies. Concepts where all peoples act as self-sufficient civilizational systems are being updated. In our view, such theories more fully reflect the essence of modern social progress.
We pay great attention to the comparative analysis of various concepts of social progress and have shown their advantages and weaknesses. The article examines in detail the approaches in which social progress is associated exclusively with the success of mankind in the technical field. It is argued a more balanced methodology for assessing the place of particular peoples in world history. The article considers in greater detail the role of the spiritual component, which, in our opinion, should become decisive in formation of the future global-regional world order.
