Annotation:
Buddhism had successfully adapted to new challenges of the third millennium by building fruitful relationships with state and public institutions, conducting a dialogue with the representatives of other beliefs. The role of Buddhism in solving the contemporary problems of humanity in the field of education, culture, health, environment, and politics defines its significance in the modern world. Nondogmatic and tolerate worldview, intellectualism and rationalism, meditation techniques, social engagement, gender equality contribute to social adaptation of Buddhism in the new sociocultural conditions. Buddhism in the USA has a practical meaning (practical Buddhism). Today the followers of Buddhism in the European countries and North America actively use its knowledge and experience to solve social problems, such as poverty, crime, racial prejudice, etc.
