Annotation:
Microstructures and microhardness of boride layers formed on the die steel of the HVG brand by electron-beam boration in vacuum are investigated and compared. The formed layers have heterogeneous structure, combining solid and plastic components, leading to decrease of the boride layer brittleness brittleness. Analysis of thermodynamic calculations taking into account the interaction of impurities and metal base with the reaction mixture shows that an excess of boron is required. The simulation allowed us to determine the optimal conditions for the interaction of the reaction mixture V2O3:B: C with the surface of carbon die steel to form a composite coating to a depth of 5-150 microns.
