The gi ven work rev iews the histo rical and up-to -date data on the stu dies of medi cinal plants in the Bai kal region and th eir use in the compo sition of com plex medicinal prepar ations of the tradi tional medicine. The aim of the pre sent work was to dis cuss historical and mod ern aspects of the st udy of medi cinal plants in the reg ion and devel opment of medi cinal and hea lth improving reme dies on th eir base in the fini shed pharmaceutical for ms. The art icle emphasizes the ro le of the resea rchers from the Irkutsk State University and ot her institutions in the st udy of Bai kal flora us ed in the tradi tional medicine. The art icle gives consid erable prominence to the orig inal contribution of the resea rchers from the Bur yat Scientific Cen ter of the RAS Sibe rian Branch and the Med ical Institute of Dorji Banzarov҆ s Bur yat State Unive rsity in the devel opment of new medi cinal and hea lth improving reme dies on the ba se of the Bai kal region pl ant resources.
