The article examines consumer protection issues arising from the legal relationship between Russian users and Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited on the use of system software on a new generation PlayStation 4 console. Statistical data are provided indicating the total number of Russian users of system software (the number of users of PlayStation Network). The norms of domestic legislation on consumer protection are analyzed, as well as the provisions of the Sony Interactive Entertainment license agreement, the Terms of Use of programs, as well as the Terms of Service of the PlayStation Network.
In addition, the analysis of the emerging judicial practice in cases of consumer protection, which are associated with the limitation of system software, is carried out. Based on the results, the emergence of prerequisites is justified, expressed in the need to develop legislation on consumer protection in this area.
