TO THE QUESTION OF IMPROVEMENT OF MEASURES TO IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT IN THE TYPE OF DETENTION

The article is devoted to the analysis of the application of criminal sentences related to imprisonment. The subject of the study is the procedure for applying deprivation of liberty in the post-reform period in the Russian penitentiary system. The author used a dialectical approach in listing the factors that explain the current state of affairs in the Russian criminal punishment system. The following research methods were used: for- mal logical, comparative legal, statistical, sociological. It was established that the pun- ishment of imprisonment will continue to be applied for the commission of grave and especially grave crimes against persons deserving isolation from society. We believe that the correction of this category of convicts should be accompanied by the use of the whole complex of remedies. A proposal has been made to improve the very procedure of imprisonment, taking into account changes and reforming the penitentiary legislation of the Russian Federation.
