Annotation:
By the end of the first quarter of the 20th century, two opinions on the main sources of threats to stability in the Far East had become established in the West. Proponents of the first thought that it was Japan that was the real force in the capture of a number of territo- ries, starting in North China. Proponents of the second saw a clear possibility of commun- ist expansion by the USSR. Proof of this was the growing phenomenon of the USSR in Mongolia and Xinjiang, as well as close attention to the situation in Manchuria. The inter- ests of each of the great powers in this region determined their orientation to one of these two points of view. In the article, the author considers the events in Manchuria, which re- quired the diplomatic intervention of the world powers to resolve the conflict, and created the conditions for the realization of their peaceful intentions of the countries participating in the conflict and the world as a whole.
