Annotation:
Currently, one of the main objectives of studying Tibetan medieval historical and philo- sophical literature is not only comprehensive academic coverage of views of every Budd- hist school, but also clarification of their religious and political role in the historical, spiri- tual, cultural and socio-economic development of ancient India, as well as Central Asia in the Middle Ages. Despite the great research work of Tibetologists, Orientalists and Bud- dologists from different countries, the significant number of Tibetan written sources availa- ble to scientists, many aspects of the history of Tibetan culture and philosophy are still in- sufficiently studied and controversial. This is due to the fact that the Tibetan texts are quite specific and difficult for understanding. In the article we have presented the main problems encountered by researchers when studying Buddhist monuments in the original and de- scribed the existing methodological approaches for solving them.
