Annotation:
The study of the history of the development of any branch of law helps to study the current system of law and its individual branches. Civil law plays a significant role in the economic development of the state, which is why quite a lot of research is carried out on this branch of law, including in order to identify existing shortcomings and de- velop proposals for their elimination. The study of the codification history of the named branch of law is no exception. In the proposed article, the author examines the questions: when did the codification of civil law first occur in Russia? Have other forms of codification of civil law systematization been used in Russia? In this study is limited to the analysis of codification activities in Russia until the October Revolution of 1917.
