INTRODUCTION OF AMENDMENTS TO THE FEDERAL LAW «ON PROTECTION OF LAKE BAIKAL»

The article discusses the draft law on amendments to the Federal Law "On the Protection of Lake Baikal", which will soon be considered in the first reading in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The bill is aimed at changing a number of arti- cles in the Federal Law "On the Protection of Lake Baikal", namely Articles 11 and 25.1. Changes in Article 11 will affect the resolution of continuous logging of forest plantations, for the construction of objects of regional importance and measures to im- prove the general condition of trees. And also Article 25.1 will add 2 points to change the boundaries of settlements in the lands of the forest fund and to create burial places. The article analyzes the draft law and the explanatory note, its positive and negative aspects. Based on the analysis, other ways of solving environmental and social prob- lems in the Baikal natural territory are possible.
